The present study examines the cultural contexts that have provided a suitable ground for some individuals to claim Mahdism. The main research question is: what cultural factors in the eastern Islamic world, particularly in the geography of Iran, have contributed to the acceptance of such claims? The study’s hypothesis is based on the premise that the lack of public awareness regarding the concept of Imamate, the spread of superstition, and misinterpretations of religious teachings are among the most significant cultural factors that have created the conditions for the emergence and acceptance of these claims. Examinations indicate that many of these movements, by taking advantage of social problems and public dissatisfaction, have been able to present their clai ms and gain influence among certain segments of society. It appears that the acceptance of Mahdism claimants is more influenced by the cultural and social conditions in which the claims were made than by the individual characteristics of the claimants themselves. This study employs a historical approach with descriptive-analytical methods, using document-based research to examine this issue.
