The concept of “resistance” in contemporary political philosophy in the Islamic world is one of the key discussions in confronting modernity and Western domination. This article uses interpretive and comparative methods to analyze various dimensions of the doctrine of resistance in the views of four prominent thinkers: Taha Abd al-Rahman and Malik ibn Nabi from the Arab world, and Morteza Motahhari and Ayatollah Khamenei from Iran. The findings indicate that all of them emphasize the possibility of resistance and the potential of Islam as its main foundation. Differences in approaches are mainly at the strategic level: Arab thinkers focus on cultural development and community-building, whereas Iranian thinkers emphasize, in addition to culture, ideological independence and the efficiency of an Islamic state. Synthesizing these perspectives allows for the construction of a multi-layered model of effective resistance, ranging from critique of modernity to Islamic state-building.
