Reason is considered one of the fundamental sources of knowledge in Islamic political philosophy. Islamic rationalist philosophers believe that the use of reason provides the basis for the growth and flourishing of human life. This article, by raising the question of what shared human potentials reason and rationality provide for contemporary humans in the human domain from a civilizational perspective, examines the views of rationalist philosophers. According to these philosophers, reason has the ability to structure human relationships and political life based on rational knowledge—both general and empirical particulars—and to provide a civilizational order in which all humans, regardless of culture, ethnicity, or religion, can benefit from a civic system grounded in human awareness. Such an order allows for reflection on different dimensions of life, balanced growth, and the pursuit of perfection within the framework of law. Using content analysis, this study identifies and introduces the civilizational potentials of reason in the thought of Islamic rationalist philosophers.
