This article, using a descriptive–analytical method, examines Imam Musa Sadr’s civilizational perspective centered on the Holy Quran. The findings show that Sadr, with a comprehensive and ijtihadi approach, considers the Quran not merely a devotional scripture but a “civilization-building text” capable of responding to the evolving needs of humanity. In his view, the Quran, with its two fundamental characteristics—eternity and dynamism—has the capacity to offer new models for social progress in every historical period. By analyzing Sadr’s ideas, the article identifies three core mechanisms in his civilizational theory: 1. Emphasis on the central role of the human being as the knowing agent and driver of social change; 2. The necessity of dynamic ijtihad in interpreting the Quran in line with the requirements of the time; 3. The possibility of uncovering new semantic layers of the verses in light of modern knowledge. The study further shows how Sadr operationalizes this theory in his interpretation of selected verses and short surahs of the Quran. The findings also indicate that, from Sadr’s perspective, contemporary Islamic civilization can formulate its developmental models by relying on the Quran as a “roadmap” and by employing a method of social ijtihad. Ultimately, the article presents a three-level model—individual, social, and civilizational—illustrating the Quran’s influence on societal progress based on Sadr’s viewpoint, offering a theoretical framework for Islamic civilization-building in the present era.
